What is Genealocate?

We are a Germany-based team of freelance genealogists and heir finders specialized in tracking down heirs in unresolved inheritance cases. Starting from the family branch of the deceased person, we try to trace all living relatives who are legally entitled to a portion of their property. Due to the often-distant family relationship, these persons are usually unaware of their claim before we contact them.

What does Genealocate do exactly?

We help living heirs prove their claim in unsettled probate cases by

  • identifying all living relatives of the deceased,
  • clarifying the legal succession,
  • contacting the heirs,
  • procuring all evidence necessary to justify their claims.

Being contacted by an heir finder usually may raise several questions, which we will try to answer.

Genealogy

What is Genealogy?

Genealogy is a technical term for ancestor and family research. This includes research on the ancestors of a person, the results of which can then be presented in a genealogical table. If the research is extended to the other descendants of the identified ancestors, a family tree is formed.

Usually, the first points of interests are the basic biographical data and further kinship connections of the historical relatives (for example, date and place of birth, marriage and death). Building upon these, biographical details can then often be reconstructed downstream.

What purposes does Genealogy serve?

Genealogy is most often used in family research with the aim of learning more about historical and living relatives and their biographies.

However, genealogy is also used as an important tool for tracking down heirs in cases where a deceased person has no close relative.
